Discoveries: Education,

Employment, & Economies

Hello!

As we step into the New Year, we turn our attention to the transformative power of education, employment, and economies. The topic of education underscores the importance of inclusive, quality education in reducing inequality and empowering individuals, while the concepts of employment and economies highlight the need for decent work opportunities to drive thrivable progress. Fair access to education and economic opportunities are interconnected pathways that can reshape societies and create a foundation for lasting prosperity.

"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world."

SPOTLIGHT -

A Thrivable Resolution

trash on Bronte Beach

During the festive season we deserve to spend time, effort, and resources reuniting with friends and family. How ironic it is that we leave a trail of waste and irresponsible consumption in our wake.

As we embark on a New Year, let us not forget the waste that comes with our celebrations. The UK produces enough wrapping paper to circle the globe 9x. In Australia, over $1 billion of unwanted gifts are discarded annually. Landfill waste during the holiday season increases by 30%. This includes food waste, which is especially problematic in the context of increasing levels of global food insecurity. Take a look at these sad scenes from Bronte Beach post-Christmas Day!

However, let us approach 2025 with a thrivable mindset. When making your New Year's resolutions, consider the planet and all of our futures. Check out the new fortnightly Thrivable Tips on LinkedIn.

THRIVER'S VOICE -

Education

Education is at the forefront of many significant issues the world is facing.

A quality education improves welfare, health, quality of life, future prospects, and the economy. A better education leads to a better natural environment.

Education is a complex wicked problem in many less developed nations as it is linked to poverty, depletion of resources, and traditional social practices. Improving education, especially for girls, improves the outlook for all aspects of thrivability and reduces the expenses of many other sectors. Improving education worldwide is the best way to achieve a thrivable future.

Story Highlight by Thriver, Memory:

The Seeds of Opportunity

In a small village in Ghana, a teacher named Kwame believed quality education could help his community thrive. Under a mango tree, he taught children about innovation and sustainable practices.

One day, a local entrepreneur saw the potential in Kwame’s students and built a vocational centre. The children learned skills such as carpentry, tailoring, and eco-friendly farming.

Armed with knowledge and sustainable work opportunities, they started businesses that boosted the local economy. The village began to thrive, proving that quality education and employment opportunities are the foundation for sustainable growth and a brighter future for generations to come.
