Ayana’s story - A Well of Change
In a small, sun-drenched village in rural Ethiopia, Ayana smiles as she watches her daughter, Lila, play in the dirt by their modest home.
Yet each day, Ayana faces a painful choice. To keep her family going, she must leave Lila alone to walk miles to fetch water, hoping it’s safe enough to drink. More and more, though, Lila complains of stomach pain, and Ayana grows fearful.
One evening, as Ayana returns, she finds Lila curled up in discomfort. “Mama, my tummy hurts,” Lila whispers, wincing, tears in her eyes.
Ayana’s heart sinks as she kneels beside her, feeling powerless. “I know, my love. I am so sorry, I wish I could bring cleaner water.”
The water source is far and often dirty but it’s all they have. As Lila’s stomach cramps worsen, Ayana’s worry deepens, knowing the water is making her daughter sick but feeling trapped by their circumstances.
Then, hope arrives as news of a solar-powered clean water pump installation spreads through the village. For the first time, clear, freshwater is accessible close to home. Ayana fills a jug, feeling relief and gratitude.
This sustainable solution, powered by the sun, ensures a healthier future and reduces their reliance on contaminated water, giving them both the peace and resources they need to thrive.
